This chart is the percent of a nations population that cannot afford a healthy diet. This means that food expenses are over 50% of a households monthly income. According to the UN, 3 billion people fall into this category.
This is in part due to the scale of the individual farms in developing nations. Smaller farms have fewer economies of scale and resources to provide food at the best prices.
